When we speak of someone having “heart” we’re not referring to their biological heart, rather to their Virtue, their qualities of Goodness, Kindness, Wisdom, and Compassion. Spiritual, religious, moral, and legal principles based on Virtue are the source of strength and solidarity for every human community, without the Virtues of Love and Wisdom, we would not have survived. Since the invention of time spiritual and religious entities have been tasked with holding the social community responsible for Virtue. In today’s world the value of Virtue has never been greater, yet spirituality is no longer central to the most powerful religious, political, and economic systems. Population growth, economic inequality, technologies of mass destruction, and environmental degradation all present a threat to the very existence of Life on Earth.
